Ricci changed roles to be that were more appropriate for adults in The Ice Storm (1997) and then a prestigious role on The Opposite of Sex 1998, which resulted in her being an award as a Golden Globe nominee for Best Actress. In 1999, she received praise for her performance on the screen in Sleepy Hollow and Monster.
