Her early success as an actor for children was due to her performance of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family in 1991 as well as Addams Family Values in 1993. She also received appreciation for her role as Kat Harvey in Casper in 1995. Ricci shifted into roles that were more appropriate for adults in The Ice Storm (1997), followed by an award-winning performance in The Opposite of Sex 1998 and resulted in her being the Golden Globe nominee for Best Actress.
